This is the best Paella I have had to date! I may be biased, and it may have something to do with the effort involved to get to it, but I said what I said! You have to work hard for your food. Sa Foradada restaurant is truly off the beaten path and famed for its traditional paella cooked on a wood-fired grill. Only accessible by boat, or an hour-long beautifully scenic Hike!
“This Idyllic cliffside restaurant is 100% Bucket List worthy”
Located in the Northwest of Mallorca, away from the typical tourist spots. In the heart of Deia. It’s very popular with cyclists. This is picturesque Spanish countryside nestled in the mountains with stunning beaches every few kilometers is a must-visit spot!
Sa Foradada is definitely worth a day trip from anywhere on the island! Alternatively, book somewhere local to stay for a couple of nights so you can explore the region.
Where to Stay
Deia, or Soller. Google them, they’re some of the most beautiful places I’ve seen. I stayed in Soller for a few days. An old traditional Spanish town in a valley abundant with citrus groves. That orange juice tho! And the perfect location from away close to Port de Soller, and Sa Foradada.
How to Get there
You only have two options. The FREE hour-long scenic hike, or the more expensive option by boat.
I sort of did both. We hiked on the day we actually ate there and then had a half-day sail with Mezzo Magic, based in Port de Soller which happened to sail past Sa Foradada, which gave me insight into both options.
It is a moderately difficult hike, purely because of the gradient change, otherwise it would be easy! You start by walking through olive groves just behind the Son Marroig Museum.
You soon get to the cliff edge and the views are to die for. From here, the trail is all gravel but large enough for a car to go down. Carved into the mountainside, winding all the way down to sea level offering spectacular views.
It takes about 40 minutes down if you don’t stop for too many photo ops. But this is the beauty of the place, take your time, and enjoy the journey. The return leg, considering you will have a full belly and a steady uphill hike is around an hour-long, but there’s no rush.
You could always relax at the cove just below the restaurant, take a dip in the sea and then begin your hike after a well deserved chill.
Sea-Food and Sea-Views, does it get any better? In the back, you have an open kitchen with wood-fired grills filling the air with aromas and sounds of the feast to come. And you won’t be disappointed!
They do offer walk-ins, but you don’t want to be turned down after that hike. So definitely make a reservation this is essential. Click Here for their website.
The restaurant is simple, rustic, and authentic. Perched on the edge of the cliffs overlooking the sea and an iconic spot at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains from which it got its name.
Yes, 100% yes. If you find yourself in Mallorca, try and rent a car/scooter and go experience this for yourself. You will not be disappointed! And if you’ve already been, let me know what you thought of it!
